deren Mitglieder von so verschiedenen Hintergründen wie Hardcore, Klassischer Musik, Folk und Jazz her kommen.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>In Portland\u002FOregon gegründet, entsprang die Idee für das Projekt dem Kopf von Gitarristen Alex Hall, der in verschiedenen Hardcore-Projekten gearbeitet hatte, bevor er eine gewisse Übersättigung zu verspüren begann: «Alle in dieser Stadt sind in einer Band, ehrlich. Du findest kaum zwei Leute, die nicht an irgendeinem Projekt beteiligt sind».\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Das Experiment, sich durch eine Instrumentierung mit zwei akustischen Gitarren, einer Violine, Piano oder Bass, und einem Schlagzeug, zumindest in der Instrumentierung vom gängigen Output zu unterscheiden, dabei eine Musik zu schaffen, welche in Stimmungen und Arrangements innerhalb der Rock-Musik funktioniert, jedoch weder kompositorische Vorgaben noch freie Improvisation zum stilistischen Prinzip erhebt, brachte ihnen einige Aufmerksamkeit ein, und veranlasste auch Steve von Till, den Macher des Neurot-Labels, die Band zu veröffentlichen.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Vor allem die Violine fungiert zum Teil als Ersatz der Stimme, wie im Sun City Girls-Cover «Space Prophet Dogon», ansonsten arbeiten die fünf dermassen dicht in einer Einheit, dass Erinnerungen an minimale Komponisten wie Phil Glass auftauchen, dann entsteht auch wieder ein Gruppensound, wie er einer hart abrockenden Combo gut anstände.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Neurosis waren noch nie bekannt durch einen Mangel an Subtilität, was die Umsetzung emotioneller Tiefe anbelangt, und so ist es letztlich wenig erstaunlich, dass das Projekt mit seinem Output, das im ersten Moment unweigerlich die Vergleiche mit Projekten wie Godspeedyou!
